The Semester in Los Angeles program welcomes students with a broad spectrum of backgrounds and experiences who meet the eligibility criteria. Enrollment is limited, so we encourage students to submit an application as follows:

For spring, summer, and fall 2010, applications will continue to be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to students of The University of Texas at Austin. The program sometimes reaches capacity up to one or two semesters in advance, so we encourage students to apply as early as possible to secure enrollment. Once the program reaches capacity, approved applicants are placed on a waitlist and are informed of their place on the waitlist based on the date of receipt of their application by the UTLA Center. As seats become available, applicants on the waiting list are notified, and are given five working days to confirm their decision to participate by paying a $500 non-refundable non-transferable deposit ($800 for non-UT students). Final acceptance to the program is contingent upon submission of all required documents and the non-refundable deposit, which is applied to the program fee. All waitlisted students will retain their seat on the waitlist until 30 days before the program check-in date, when final decisions will be made, should space be available.
Beginning with spring semester 2011, the Semester in Los Angeles Program will shift away from a “first-come, first-served model” to implement a selective application process. The program eligibility criteria will not change, but the application will contain a new essay component designed to motivate students to articulate their goals for participation in the program in relation to their academic, personal and professional interests. Applications will undergo review by a special committee comprised of UT faculty and staff, who will take into consideration a range of factors (a student’s GPA will be important, but will not be the sole determining factor). Students will be notified of their acceptance shortly after the priority deadline of March 1.
Students who wish to apply for spring and summer 2011 will apply mid- to late spring 2010. Students who are interested in applying for fall 2011, spring 2012 and summer 2012 will apply in the spring of 2011.
Before submitting an application, please determine your eligibility, attend a Semester in Los Angeles information session, become familiar with the information contained in this site, and secure your academic advisor’s approval (see application form). Pay particular attention to the “timeline” for your semester of participation, as it contains important deadlines and information that may impact your participation.
