All students participating in the Semester in Los Angeles program are required to enroll in an internship course. The internship component of the program provides an ideal opportunity for learning about the entertainment industry in an experiential manner. Most students take the opportunity to explore one or more career interests, and come away with valuable insight into future career paths, a few contacts in their area of interest, and a more nuanced understanding of the field.
Staff at the UTLA Center will assist students with the internship search process, but students carry the responsibility of securing an internship. The Center provides information and resources, including an online database of employers and email updates on industry openings in a wide range of areas, including production, post-production, creative, screenwriting, casting, acting, public relations, advertising, and more. Listings with invalid contact info send to Mike Perlin at mperlin@mail.utexas.edu

In order to receive approval for academic credit, all internships must meet the requirements outlined in the Semester in Los Angeles Internship Agreement. This form is required for each internship a student undertakes in Los Angeles. All students considering the program should consult their academic advisor regarding the internship course and how it might satisfy their degree requirements.
Advertising and public relations students: COM 350 cannot be substituted for ADV or PR 350, the required advertising and public relations internship courses. These advertising and public relations internship courses require important prerequisites, and review and final approval of the internships rests with the department. If you plan to participate in the Semester in Los Angeles program and wish to take the internship that counts for your degree requirements, you must contact the internship coordinator in the Advertising Department the semester before you plan to go and follow the application process outlined on the ADV/PR Internship website. If you have questions about the process, contact your academic advisor.
